About the captain and host
Aloha, I’m Captain Kelly, a lifelong boater, boat captain, and certified dive master with decades of experience on and under the water. I became a certified scuba diver in 1984 at Catalina Island, California, and further developed my skills through the Sea Explorer program with the Boy Scouts of America and by graduating from a commercial dive school in Long Beach. I also hold Level I and II certifications in ultrasonic inspection. I spent 10 years as a commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico, specializing in deep gas and saturation diving, until my career ended following multiple decompression sickness incidents—known among divers as “getting bent.” After transitioning out of diving, I worked as a steel and structural inspector and contributed to building major projects, including large aircraft hangars. In 2014, I opened one of the first cannabis dispensaries in Portland, Oregon. During the COVID era, I explored remote island chains before eventually settling on Lanai, where I created a private island-style oasis. Today, I call Oahu home, where I captain my own 30-foot boat and host small-group ocean adventure experiences.
